Count the number of words in a string. Words are separated by one or more spaces. Return 0 for null or empty strings, and for strings containing only whitespace.
Examples:
Input: str = 'hello world'
Output: 2
Input: str = 'apex is great'
Output: 3
Explanation: Multiple consecutive spaces count as one delimiter
Input: str = 'singleword'
Output: 1
Input: str = null
Output: 0
Input: str = ' '
Output: 0
Explanation: A whitespace-only string has no words
